Chatmon's Books and the African American Museum & Library at Oakland Team Up To Host A Series of Writers Workshops

New and aspiring authors learn how to find motivation, publishing options, book marketing and promoting in informative sessions.

2012-05-02
OAKLAND, CA, May 02, 2012 (Press-News.org) Chatmon's Books will hold its monthly writers workshop on May 19, 2012 inside the African American Museum & Library at Oakland (AAMLO). The workshops which began in January as a partnership between AAMLO and Chatmon's Books, has turned out to be an amazing success, encouraging new and aspiring authors to turn their thoughts into a book.

With years of experience, authors and poet Chandra and Charles Chatmon have shared their advice with new and aspiring authors on how to turn their thoughts into a book. These informative lessons are for the numbers of potential authors who dream of writing that first book, but not sure how or where to start.

The co-owners of Chatmon's Books provide tips on how to create a manuscript, using the mechanics of writing using the methods of theme, plot, and research tips for non-fiction subjects. They will review the steps taken in submitting a manuscript for copyright, listing publishing options for the aspiring author, how to market their published product once it is out and how to best effectively use the internet when doing so. They also reveal the trends in the publishing industry and what to look out for.

As a result, their lessons have inspired budding writers to realize their literary dreams, even leading several attendees to publish a book. Workshops generally take two hours, and reference sheets are provided for each lesson. The sessions are held every third Saturday of the month unless noted, beginning at 2:00pm. Attendance is free.

AAMLO is located on 659 14th Street in Oakland, CA 94612. The museum and library is accessible by public transportation such as AC Transit and BART. For more information, please call AAMLO at (510) 637-0200 or Chatmon's Books at (707) 235-6520. You may also register via email at info@chatmonsbooks.com.

2012-05-02
In 2005 the Missouri Workers Compensation law was drastically changed to favor the employer. The idea was to make it so injured workers would not be able to recover for these types of injuries. However, the trial lawyers of Missouri knew better than to think that this cause of action would be unrecoverable and thus proceeded to the civil court system to state their case. Since that time, many cases that have been denied by workers compensation defenders ...
