2012-05-04
WASHINGTON, DC, May 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) Specialty Hospital Of Washington (SHW), Hadley Campus, has implemented an award winning pressure ulcer prevention program that helps hospitals and skilled nursing centers develop strategies for assessing, preventing and treating pressure ulcers.

Pressure ulcers, also known as bed sores, pressure sores, or decubitus ulcers, are wounds caused by unrelieved pressure on the skin. They usually develop over bony prominences, such as the elbow, heel, hip, shoulder, back, and back of the head. Pressure ulcers are serious medical conditions and one of the important measures of the quality of clinical care in nursing homes. It is estimated that 2% to 28% of nursing home residents have pressure ulcers.

The SHW Hadley clinical staff went through extensive training and received certification for the pressure ulcer prevention program. The added training is part the hospital's commitment to continuing education, and further enhances its renowned wound care program that utilizes state of the art technology and techniques. SHW strives to provide comfort to patients by alleviating the pain involved with wounds and wound care and optimizing the treatment environment that enables the wound to heal quickly.

About Specialty Hospital Of Washington
