MALTA, May 11, 2012 (Press-News.org) Ghanafest is Malta's annual celebration of Mediterranean folk music, with a series of concerts taking place in early June.
Held at the Argotti Gardens in Floriana, the performances will encompass traditional Maltese folk songs - known as 'ghana' - and music from Turkey, Sicily and Iran.
This year's festival is due to take place from Friday June 8th to Sunday June 10th. Tickets will be available at the door, with a EUR5 (GBP4) pass providing access to all three days of music.
Artists due to appear at Ghanafest include the Big Band Brothers, who will perform a selection of Maltese songs from the 1930s, fusion trio Trania and songwriter David Azzopardi.
Sicilian act Nakaira will use traditional instruments to play music that draws on both Italian and Greek influences, while the Nava ensemble are due to deliver a showcase of Persian music.
The concert venue in Floriana is within walking distance of Valletta, the island's capital city.
