Lockwood Group Builds New Zealand's Most Durable Homes, in Retail Digital

Lockwood Group Ltd's commitment to quality, strength and reputation creates exceptional lifestyle homes with unparalleled longevity

2012-05-12
SAN DIEGO, CA, May 12, 2012 (Press-News.org) In an interview with Retail Digital, Owner Joe La Grouw explains how Lockwood's innovative approach to well-structured housing that lasts, has earned them a golden reputation in New Zealand home building.

Started by Dutch immigrants Johannes La Grouw Senior and John Van Logham in 1951, Lockwood Group Ltd emerged out of the diligent work, and focused determination of two business partners with a dream to make safer housing. Founded in Rotorua, New Zealand, Lockwood originally capitalised on timber found in the region's abundant pine forests. Sixty years later, La Grouw's son, Joe La Grouw continues his father's successful legacy in superior home building. Currently, Lockwood is Australia's and New Zealand's leading prefabricated lifestyle homes franchise, with over thirty territories in New Zealand alone.

Lockwood's superior home designs offer a much needed solution to the feeble and unreliable structural designs of traditional nail-and-board housing. Lockwood's nail-free approach to home design not only offers aesthetic seamlessness, but unparalleled structural integrity. "In an ordinary nailed house, when you put stresses on the structure through a natural disaster, and the structure moves-- it loses its grips. If the building is moved enough, it will fold the nail, and the infrastructure will collapse," says La Grouw.

However, Lockwood's design approaches home-building in a much more streamlined and structurally viable way. Like the name suggests, Lockwood's homes are simply 'locked' into place like a traditional log cabin form of building, "We have taken the old style of the log cabin and used modern technology to make something quite better and a lot more serviceable," says La Grouw.

About Lockwood

The fundamental strengths of a Lockwood home are unique. Lockwood walls are locked together, not nailed together. This locking system, combined with the use of vertical tie rods in the walls is what gives it the strength to withstand earthquakes and hurricanes all over the world.

The low maintenance qualities of Lockwood houses, the appealing designs and the ease and speed with which they can be built, makes Lockwood the perfect choice. Lovers of Lockwood say they enjoy living in the natural timber home, and that they feel more relaxed, as though they are on holiday all year round. Some say they "feel healthier" and that their home is warmer and drier.

Engine Australia: 'To Diesel For', in Manufacturing Digital

2012-05-12
When Managing Director Philip Sturgess' father started Engine Australia in 1958, he built it where the tarmac ended, and the road turned to dirt. "There were a lot of small farmers who used that road to get in to Brisbane and get their engines serviced," explains Sturgess. "So dad figured that if he built it where he did, he could catch the business coming in from the west." And that's how a real-life outback yarn was spun by a family of smart, dedicated Australians. Today, with the company still headquartered in that same small rural town of Dalby ...
