J. Martinez & Company Warns Consumers About Recalled Coffee Maker

J. Martinez & Company, purveyor of fine coffees and gifts, alerts consumers concerning a recalled coffee maker that may pose a safety risk.

2012-05-24
ATLANTA, GA, May 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) J. Martinez & Company, importers and roasters of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, Hawaiian Kona Coffee, and other estate and specialty coffees, are doing their part to get the word out to consumers about recalled Tassimo single-cup coffee makers. This particular brand of coffee maker is not sold by J. Martinez & Co., though in the interest of public safety, they are spreading the news of this recall to other gourmet coffee lovers in order to prevent further injury.

The recall includes Tassimo specialty coffee makers with the Bosch brand name and some of the Tassimo Professional Series coffee makers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has 140 reports of users and bystanders being sprayed with hot liquid when the single serve coffee discs burst unexpectedly. Nearly 40 of these reports have involved 2nd degree burns, including a 10-year old girl in Minnesota that sustained burns to her face and neck.

The recalled model numbers are TAS100, TAS200, TAS451, TAS46, TAS651, and TAS6512CUL, in the following colors: black, white, titanium, red, silver, white/gray, and anthracite. These gourmet coffee brewers have been primarily sold in home improvement stores, department stores, and online nationwide from 2008 through 2012. The recall includes approximately 835,000 coffee makers thus far.

John Martinez, owner of J. Martinez & Co., explains, "Although we do not carry this particular product, as part of the specialty coffee community, we felt it was important to try and spread the word about the recall in hopes that someone may avoid getting seriously burned."

Owners of a Tassimo coffee maker are asked to stop using the machine right away and contact the manufacturer for further information about the recall.

J. Martinez & Company is an exclusive importer of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee and Hawaiian Kona Coffee. For more information about the company's selection of gourmet coffee and gifts, visit http://www.martinezfinecoffees.com.
