LAKELAND, FL, June 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) David Dismuke, a Burnetti, P.A. associate, has received Board Certification in Civil Trial. Certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of the experience and competency of the attorney's area of law.
Established in 1982 by the Florida Supreme Court, board certification recognizes attorneys' professionalism and ethics in practice, plus special skills, knowledge, and proficiency in 24 areas of law approved for certification by the Supreme Court of Florida.
"Attaining board certification has always been very important to me," stated Mr. Dismuke. "It is one of the few ways the public has to choose a lawyer that cuts through the hype and focuses on the lawyer's qualifications and skills. I'm very proud to be a member of that small group of lawyers."
To attain board certification in civil law, attorneys must practice law for a minimum of five years, of which at least 50 percent has been spent actively participating in civil trial law; conduct at least 15 contested civil cases in courts of general jurisdiction, including cases as lead counsel and cases before a jury; complete at least 50 hours of approved continuing legal education programs; demonstrate substantial involvement and competence in the specialty area; be favorably evaluated by judges and other lawyers regarding competence, character and professionalism; and pass a written examination in the specialty area.
Board certification was established by the Florida Supreme Court so that consumers can identify qualified legal specialists dedicated to professional excellence. Only 7 percent of eligible Florida Bar members are board certified, and approximately 1 percent are certified in civil trial.
Mr. Dismuke represents clients in personal injury claims including automobile accidents, wrongful death, workers' compensation and other personal injuries. He graduated with honors from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2001 and has been with Burnetti, P.A. since 2002.
