RANCHO SANTA FE, CA, June 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Athletes for Education (AFE) will host their 7h Annual Celebrity Golf Classic with "After Party" on Friday, June 15, 2012 to benefit youth programs throughout San Diego County. The golf tournament includes a Kennedy's Karne lunch and a dinner with entertainment, opportunity drawing and live/silent auction from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Maderas Golf Club located at 17750 Old Coach Road in Poway (registration begins at 10:30 am with a shotgun start at 12:30 pm). Competitions include male and female longest drive and closest to the pin challenges. Surgery One is sponsoring the celebrity golf classic along with BSD Builders, McKesson, Torrey Pines Bank and Coast Surgery Center. Personal appearances by NFL players include: Steve Gregory of the New England Patriots, former San Diego Charger Kassim Osgood and Luis Castillo of the San Diego Chargers. They will be joined by Greg Camarillo and Darren Carrington, former San Diego Chargers, along with Leon White, former Cincinnati Bengals player.
The event proceeds will directly impact San Diego youth programs that include mentorship and scholarship programs. According to AFE Executive Director Leslie Herrmann, "AFE was recently honored as the recipient of the 10News Leadership Award for exemplifying commitment to the San Diego community and we will be celebrating this award along with raising funds to further the mission of AFE. Our mentorship programs and events support and reward at-risk youth from disadvantaged areas, with the goal of establishing lasting life skills that act as an investment in our youth and community. "
AFE is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization comprised of current and former professional athletes, entertainers, business/community leaders and volunteers. Now in its 19th year, AFE promotes children's health and wellness, teaches teamwork and discipline, builds self-confidence, imparts life skills and directly connects hard work with incentives and rewards.
