When these blood vessels are damaged, they cannot keep the tissue in the breast alive, causing open wounds to develop that take a long time to heal. SPY prevents unnecessary blood vessel damage and helps surgeons predict exactly where tissue death might occur, allowing them to deal with it before putting in an implant.
