Is monitoring software an invasion of privacy... or is it the smart thing to do to protect your children?

Atlanta-based advertising agency Legacy Worldwide is backing a brand new product called the SmartShepherd designed to give parents complete access to their children's cell phone activity and increase security in a digital world.

2012-06-22
ATLANTA, GA, June 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) In recent years, cyber crime − a crime committed through the use of technology such as a computer or cell phone − has led to a disturbing number of tragedies, including an alarmingly high amount of teen suicides, sexual assaults and kidnappings. The Cyber Bullying Research Center reports that over 80% of teenagers use their cell phone every single day and nearly 25% of them have been the victims of bullying or sexual solicitations via this same technology.

In recent news, alleged child molesting by the Penn State's Jerry Sandusky has served as yet another cautionary tale for parents of the very real possibility that crimes against their children can occur right under their noses.

"Many of these types of crimes could be intercepted and possibly prevented if the parents were able to track cell-phone activity and further monitor their child's surroundings." says Damon Davis CEO, of Legacy Worldwide.

In response to this growing epidemic of crimes against children, Atlanta-based advertising agency Legacy Worldwide is backing a brand new product called the SmartShepherd designed to give parents complete, undetected access to their children's cell phone activity. The standard SmartShepherd Lite application will allow parents to receive alerts with full copies of their child's email and text messaging content, as well as call logs and tags to their physical location. With an upgrade to the smart SmartShepherd Live version, parents can also listen to their child's phone conversations and surroundings using the remote microphone activation capabilities.

"Of course, critics will voice concerns about privacy and trust issues," says Legacy's CEO, Damon Davis. "But if you look at the growing number of crimes against children by predators and bullies who have access to their victims through their cell phones," continues the father of five, "those safety issues - in our opinion - will always trump privacy issues when it comes to children."
Davis maintains that SmartShepherd is an ideal solution for parents who want to protect their children from threats that they may not be able to detect any other way. Ted Thompson, the executive director for The Association to Prevent Sexual Abuse of Children cautions, "The fact is a teacher can show absolutely zero outward signs of interest in a child, but because of technology they can have an ongoing relationship and no one would know."
SmartShepherd, both Lite and Live versions, provides a new advantage for parents to help them access the information they need to combat modern danger and get back their peace of mind.

Like so many tragedies in history, there is a tendency for the public to forget that those who experienced them are real people, feeling the very real impact of those events. With his new novel, Blue Saltwater, Canadian author Dan Green is hoping to open up the door to discussing the still-open wounds left from the residential school experience. While ...
