Jazz: Brooklyn's Beat Wraps Up Six-event Series in the Heart of Brooklyn with Jeremy Pelt Quintet at Brooklyn Museum Thursday, June 28, 7:00 pm

BROOKLYN, NY, June 28, 2012 (Press-News.org) Jazz: Brooklyn's Beat, a unique partnership between Heart of Brooklyn and WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM featuring an eclectic mix of free and low-cost jazz performances at six of Brooklyn's favorite cultural institutions, concludes this Thursday, June 28, at 7:00 pm with the Jeremy Pelt Quintet as part of the BrooklyNites Jazz series at the Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway.

WBGO's Rob Crocker is emcee for the BrooklyNites Jazz series. The concert is free to members of the radio station and the museum; suggested admission for non-members is $12 adults, $8 students and senior citizens. Concert attendees are invited to enjoy the exhibitions and collections throughout the museum, which closes at 10:00 pm.

The Jeremy Pelt Quintet (www.jeremypelt.net) features Pelt on trumpet, David Bryant on piano, Dwayne Burno on bass, JD Allen on saxophones and Jonathan Barber on drums. Pelt arrived in New York in 1998 after graduating from Berklee College of Music. Once he got here, it wasn't long before he was noticed by some of top musicians in the city. His first professional Jazz gig was playing with the Mingus Big Band. That gig led to many long-lasting associations and a great opportunity for growth. Since his arrival, he has performed with many of today's and yesterday's Jazz luminaries, including Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess, Charli Persip, Keter Betts, Frank Foster, John Hicks, Ravi Coltrane, Winard Harper, Vincent Herring, Ralph Peterson, Lonnie Plaxico, Cliff Barbaro, Nancy Wilson, Bobby Short, Bobby "Blue" Bland, The Skatalites, Cedar Walton, and many more.

Jazz: Brooklyn's Beat, a month-long celebration throughout June, gives music fans of all ages a chance to enjoy world-class jazz music at some of the borough's favorite cultural destinations. Heart of Brooklyn and WBGO, in collaboration with Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park Alliance and Prospect Park Zoo, have been working together since 2007 to bring jazz musicians, singers and artists from around the globe to Brooklyn. The series showcases the borough's diversity and the musical form of jazz through concerts, dances, lessons and more.

In 2012, audiences also were treated to a wide range of entertainment from Samba with the Sea Lions at Prospect Park Zoo, where sea lions BeeBe and Stella "danced" along as Samba New York! taught the crowd Brazil's most famous dance; a free Felix Hernandez Rhythm Revue under Prospect Park's Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch at Grand Army Plaza; the Chuck Braman Quartet featuring vibraphonist Behn Gillece at BBG's free Amble celebration; a Father's Day weekend performance by renowned harpist Brandee Younger at The Brooklyn Children Museum; and bassist and vocalist Katie Thiroux playing Brooklyn Public Library's outdoor plaza.
