NEW YORK, NY, June 28, 2012 (Press-News.org) Richard P. Brown, MD and Patricia Gerbarg, MD join LifeForce Yoga teacher, Amy Weintraub, as guest faculty on Monday, July 9, at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Lenox, MA in an all-day seminar that will train yoga teachers, yoga therapists, and health care providers mind-body healing techniques to help their clients recover from depression and anxiety. The presentation, part of a 7-day intensive, is entitled "Practitioner Training for Depression and Anxiety: Level 1."
Drs. Brown & Gerbarg will lecture on neurophysiology, research, and the integration of mind-body practices with clinical work. Dr. Brown will lead movement and breathing techniques from their Breath~Body~Mind program. Providers will learn an evidence-based yoga protocol to help students and clients focus, relax, and have greater access to feeling states. These strategies, appropriate for clinical settings, can safely relieve stress, chronic physical tension and negative emotions.

Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 200 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups, as well as workshops for non-profits such as Serving Those Who Serve in New York City. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops have helped thousands of people deal with everyday stress and enabled survivors of trauma and mass disasters to recover their health and well-being.
Dr. Gerbarg is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to her clinical practice, she provides consultation and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices for recovery from mass disasters.
Amy Weintraub, MFA, E-RYT 500, is the author of Yoga for Depression and founder of the LifeForce Yoga Healing Institute. A leader in the field of yoga and mental health, she offers professional trainings, and teaches at medical and psychological conferences internationally.
