On June 3, Dana Airlines Ltd. flight 992 left Abuja, Nigeria, headed for Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. As the plane approached the Lagos airport, it crashed into a two-story apartment building, killing the 153 people onboard and at least another 10 people on the ground. Dana Airlines officials reported that the pilot radioed a Mayday call regarding engine failure minutes before the crash.

Following the tragic airplane crash, the Nigerian airline's operating license was suspended.

According to papers filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, the wrongful death lawsuit names airplane manufacturer Boeing Co., engine maker United Technologies and the estate of the pilot of flight 992.
