Plastic Surgeon Travels to Guatemala on Charity Mission

Dr. Mathew Mosher, a plastic surgery specialist in Vancouver, recently traveled to Guatemala to provide his plastic and reconstructive surgical skills to impoverished residents there.

2012-06-29
LANGLEY, BC, June 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) Dr. Mathew Mosher of YES Medspa and Cosmetic Surgery Centre recently returned from a volunteer mission to Guatemala. Dr. Mosher, who practices plastic surgery in the Vancouver area, participates in volunteer trips to Guatemala through a nonprofit organization called Project HANDS.

"I feel very fortunate to be able to use my skills as a cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon in this way," Dr. Mosher says. "It is extremely rewarding to help people in rural settings where there is little access to health care of any kind."

One of the leading plastic surgeons in Vancouver, Dr. Mosher is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Plastic Surgery. During his volunteer missions, he is able to help children and adults who suffer from a range of injuries and congenital deformities.

"Most of the surgeries are on children with very challenging reconstructive needs resulting from burns that were never treated," he says. "Many of the resulting scars cause disfigurement as well as loss of function. These are the kinds of cases we hardly ever see in North America, where injuries are addressed immediately.

"Although the number of patients in need of help is overwhelming, it's extremely gratifying to know that we were able to make a difference in the lives of more than 30 patients during our recent visit."

Dr. Mosher says the trip helped him appreciate how fortunate he is to live in North America.

"Returning to Guatemala, I was reminded of how lucky I am to have excellent medical care within reach whenever I need it," he says. "The trip was an eye-opening experience for every member of our team."

At his practice in Langley, Dr. Mosher offers the latest surgical and non-surgical techniques. He customizes procedures to each patient's body type and cosmetic goals, and he works with his patients to arrive at the most effective treatment plans to meet their specific needs.

"Whether I'm performing reconstructive surgery in Guatemala or a cosmetic procedure such as breast augmentation in Vancouver, I always aim to create natural-looking results," Dr. Mosher says. "One of the best parts of my job is meeting new patients and seeing how cosmetic and reconstructive surgery can have positive effects on their lives.

"I look forward to meeting more patients, both at my practice and during my trips to Guatemala."

Dr. Mathew Mosher, founder and director of Your Esthetic Solutions (YES) Medspa and Cosmetic Surgery Centre, is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His training includes a prestigious fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery under internationally acclaimed surgeon Dr. B.F. Connell in Southern California, and additional training in Toronto, Dallas, and Honolulu. At his Vancouver area cosmetic surgery centre, Dr. Mosher specializes in advanced techniques in cosmetic surgery, as well as state-of-the-art nonsurgical options. Due to the diversity of treatments offered at his practice, patients have the freedom to choose the procedure or procedures that work best for their needs and lifestyle.
