GRAND RAPIDS, MI, July 01, 2012

Miles For Hope is hosting its 2nd Annual Moving Towards a Cure 5K Brain Tumor Awareness Run/Walk on Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at 9 am at Comstock Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, MI. There will be a 5K Run/Walk and a 1 mile Survivor Tribute Walk, led by local brain tumor survivors. Ten year old Grand Rapids area resident and brain tumor survivor Mitchell Buning has been named event ambassador for this year's event. Mitchell and several other brain tumor survivors from the Grand Rapids and surrounding area are expected to attend this event. Proceeds from this event are used to raise awareness and funding for brain tumor research and clinical trials, and for medically needy travel assistance for brain tumor patients.

Thanks to an aggressive treatment plan, Mitchell's prognosis is very good. Mitchell's story is one of survival and recovery, giving hope to others. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. There is a critical need for brain tumor research because brain tumors affect over 200,000 people each year; one person every three minutes in the United States. They are also the leading cause of solid tumor cancer deaths in children and young adults under the age of 20.

The event will be held on Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at 9 am at Comstock Riverside Park, located at 2001 Monroe Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Same-day registration opens at 8 am, event begins at 9 am. Registration for adults is $20. After July 21st, 2012, fee goes up $5. Registration free for children under 6 years. Online registration is encouraged at http://www.BrainTumorEvents.org/GrandRapids2012.

Last year's event had over 200 participants and raised more than $20,000. This year, over 500 participants are expected to attend this event and the goal is to raise at least $24,000. The 5K event is open to all ages and is seeking participants, teams, vendors, volunteers, and sponsors. Awards ceremony and post-event celebration follow the race.
