Thai Poetry & Proverbs - Learn Thai Language Thru Literature at BookofZen.com

A new website BookofZen.com has been launched to help teach Thai language and culture through original Thai poetry, proverbs, and literature translated into English.

2012-07-08
EMMAUS, PA, July 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Modern Thai poetry and Thai philosophy are the source material of a new Thai language website that helps visitors learn Thai language thru Thai literature. BookofZen.com seeks to promote a love of the Thai language and interest in Thai culture with its growing collection of original Thai proverbs and dialogues written from a Zen Buddhist perspective.

Book of Zen is not Thai poetry in the traditional sense but a collection of brief Thai prose poems that also serve as Thai proverbs with a Zen lesson to teach. Each original Zen verse of Thai poetry includes the passage written in Thai script, followed by a phonetic English spelling of the Thai sentence, a literal word for word English translation, and lastly a figurative English translation of the Thai poetry.

Thai poetry in English and Thai literature in English translation are difficult to find and rarely ever provide supplementary material for those who want to learn how to read Thai and learn the Thai language. With its transliterations and literal and figurative English translations, Book of Zen is unique in that it serves as both a literary work of art, as well as a Thai learning tool that helps students learn Thai language through literature. It is hoped that Book of Zen becomes a first stepping stone from which exploration of more traditional Thai poetry and Thai literature can be conducted.

Book of Zen also aims to challenge Thai readers with its modern Thai poetry and Zen proverbs. In classic Zen style, many of the Thai proverbs and Zen koans force readers to step away from rational, linear thinking in a search for meaning. Book of Zen thus hopes to foster creativity and imaginative thinking skills among Thai students. The book will be a valuable resource not only for Thai poetry teachers, but Thai philosophy teachers, Thai literature teachers, and Thai language teachers who want to foster creative thinking skills.

Book of Zen isn't only for those who want to learn Thai or who are interested in Thai poetry, language, and literature. This online Zen book also appeals to those who simply have an interest in Zen and Eastern religious philosophy. The English translation of the Thai poetry and Zen proverbs can stand alone as provocative Zen quotes to challenge and inspire the reader.

Book of Zen currently has over 90 verses of original Thai poetry in English. The Zen collection will expand to over 300 modern Thai proverbs in the coming weeks, through which Thai language learners can continue to learn how to read Thai and learn Thai language through literature.

To begin reading from this modern work of Thai literature, go to: BookofZen.com.

Book of Zen is a compilation of original Thai poetry, proverbs, and zen philosophy that aims to inspire a love of the Thai language and increased interest in Thai culture. The website is continually updated with new original zen sayings in the Thai and English languages.
