Jeffrey Ulmer, Global Head, External Research at Novartis to give a Featured Presentation on ¡°Technologies for the Discovery and Development of New Vaccines¡± at the Drug Delivery Technologies & Formulation Conference (Sep 5-6, 2012 in Zurich, Switzerland)

Vaccines are without a doubt the most successful of mankind¡¯s medical interventions. However, despite more than two centuries of effective use of vaccines, many substantial challenges remain. These include: improvement of existing but suboptimal vaccines (e.g., tuberculosis, influenza), discovery and development of new vaccines against targets to address large unmet medical needs (e.g., HIV, malaria, cancer), and rapidly responding to new pathogens (e.g., newly emerging microbes, bioweapons). Advances in these areas will require the application of new technologies in the areas of antigen identification and optimization, novel adjuvant discovery and development, and enhanced vaccine delivery systems. These new technologies will enable the identification, development and introduction of new and improved vaccines.

This exciting event will provide education, communication and networking opportunities for both the scientific and business leaders engaged in drug delivery and formulation. We will bring together leaders from academia, biotech and industry to discuss the current challenges and new strategies to succeed in this evolving area.

The Sessions for our 2012 agenda are Small Molecule Formulation ¨C Solubility & Bioavailability, Development of Biologic Formulation, Advanced Technologies in Drug Delivery & Novel Approaches in Drug Delivery System, Nanotechnology ¨C Clinical Results, Applications & Regulatory Challenges, and Exploiting Human Physiology to Improve Drug Delivery.
