Small Business Keeps Screwing Up Social Media

The most underreported story is the lack of knowledge and state of confusion that exists in the small business community when it comes to social media. Social Babies is becoming the definitive voice for social media in the small business community.

2012-07-14
UNION CITY, NJ, July 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) The most underreported story is the lack of knowledge and state of confusion that exists in the small business community when it comes to social media. Why is this an underreported story? Social media levels the playing field for every business, small and large. No longer are small businesses slaves to old media like overpriced newspaper ads, TV spots or billboards. With social media, any company can create a large and loyal following. Especially in this bad economy, a free tool like social media should be flourishing within the small business community and it's not. Sure, they might have a Facebook or Twitter page but most small businesses are screwing it up because they don't understand it and have their 15 year old daughter managing it for them.

Ask your average small business owner how to retweet, share a Facebook post or add a picture to a Pinterest Pinboard? They will just ignore you, or really ignore you, as a response. Pick up a phone book and randomly call a small business. Ask the questions posed above and you will learn how uneducated they are when it comes to social media. Social media is most powerful piece of communication invented since the telephone and small business owner have no idea how it works.

Enter Social Babies. Social Babies was launched in October 2010. Originally named Social Ride, founder and CEO James King, decided to change the name to Social Babies after the first few months of sales and speaking with hundreds of small business owners. He realized rather quickly that small business owners are like babies when it comes to social media. They get frustrated, give up or don't even try social media because they have no idea how it works. Social jargon like content curation and community management scare the hell out of small business owners. Why? They don't know what those terms mean. Plain and simple.

Fast forward to June 2012 and still the level of confusion and lack of knowledge is astonishing. Social Babies, who offer social services on a month-to-month basis, are continually educating and teaching small business owners the basics of how social media for business. Social Babies website and social networks are worded in plain english instead of social jargon to help keep it simple to understand. For instance, they refer to social networking as "meeting new people" and community management as "talking to fans and followers".

James King is on a mission to position Social Babies as the definitive voice for social media in the small business community. It starts with this first press release and will not end until, as James says, "Social Babies becomes the Go Daddy of social media", a trusted, dependable and well-known name for social media services.
