NEW YORK, NY, July 19, 2012 (Press-News.org) While the Internet has presented citizens around the globe with a unique opportunity to receive information at fast rates, social media has multiplied that speed by an immeasurable amount. Since Internet use has grown to affect virtually every area of human life, it is no surprise that businesses have found secure ways to break into the social media environment and manipulate practices to increase sales. Francis Pickworth, a global marketing professional, explains why this form of consumer outreach is so important.
A recent article from B2C maps the strong correlation between business development and social media. It explains this strength by noting that many online users now turn to Facebook and Twitter as a go-to news source; although not always reliable, it is quick, streaming and often personalized. However, being an online marketer does not just mean signing up for one of these social network accounts. Instead, Francis Pickworth stresses the importance of becoming involved and learning how to integrate one's brand into the fabric of newsworthy online discussion.
Paul Verna, senior analyst at eMarketer, told B2C, "Marketers who are savvy about how to use Facebook are focusing ... on the site's strength as a content portal, its viral power and its ability to deliver qualitative and quantitative feedback on brand campaigns." Considering the article's statistics of how many people receive news from Twitter, Francis suggests that online marketers take advantage of the noted viral power by relating their business to whatever is relevant at the moment, even if those trends are constantly changing.
"It is easy to see why people are increasingly turning to social media platforms as a news source as the speed that messages or feeds can be put out is unparalleled," notes Pickworth. However, the marketing expert notes that one of the most significant advantages of online marketing is its ability to reach new audiences. He explains, "This is more common than ever in the industry alone that theses social media platforms sit in - the tech industry. Every day there are updates, developments and changes being made that affect not only the avid followers but the general user population alike." Following that logic, Francis Pickworth concludes that if an online marketer becomes highly involved in the news aspects of social media, he or she may entice new demographics to the promoted product or service.
