BOULDER, CO, October 02, 2010 (Press-News.org) Amadeus Consulting, a custom application development company in Boulder, Colorado presents a full-scale web application for All Traffic Solutions, a traffic safety solution provider based out of State College, Pennsylvania.
They design, manufacture and sell a full line of traffic-calming signs engineered to enhance safety, performance and productivity. The focus is on speed display and variable message signs that communicate directly to the public while collecting traffic data for use by organizations responsible for public safety. Incredibly flexible, these traffic safety signs can be mounted anywhere, in virtually any configuration and accommodate almost any power source so a single sign can be used to address a wide range of situations.
Always the innovator, All Traffic Solutions was the first to bring variable mounting options, a folding sign and an extremely lightweight and portable sign to the marketplace. Later, All Traffic Solutions was the first to enable signs with Bluetooth capabilities, remote access and cross-product communication. Recently, they introduced the first web-based traffic signs. Web-based services let customers remotely manage the signs bringing significant efficiencies since resources do not have to be deployed to the field to manage individual signs.
From a single, customizable interface, users can now remotely update messages, generate reports and even interact with their traffic safety signs on a virtual map of the community. All Traffic Solutions web-based services allow managers to securely and easily update each display, receive real-time alerts, retrieve, review, edit and manage images, and download data and reports which provide more useful information for better planning and safety outcomes. These industry-leading features provide municipalities, police departments, emergency responders and other client types, the ability to quickly and effectively respond in real-time to changing situations, ensuring the safest possible environment for their communities.
Microsoft Silverlight
All Traffic Solutions approached Amadeus Consulting to build a custom web-based application using Microsoft Silverlight that would allow users the ability to manage traffic in a number of ways. Among the features requested was:
• The ability to connect directly to a sign through a USB cable or Bluetooth
• The ability to locate a sign by location from an online map and connect directly to that sign through a secure web connection
• The ability to remotely modify the sign, including its display, what data it logged (such as traffic speeds, etc), and to receive an accurate preview before activating the changes
• The ability to expand the Silverlight application to include future products
• The ability for users to easily and efficiently manage all equipment and equipment profiles
The challenge also included integrating with Bing Maps, which allowed All Traffic Solutions' clients to be able to quickly and easily manage signs and displays. This process also included security solutions that enabled departments to make changes and updates on the fly, while ensuring that access to the signs was restricted only to approved users.
Amadeus Consulting developed a web-based Silverlight application that allows users to remotely update and manage All Traffic Solution's speed display signs and variable message signs. The application integrates with Microsoft's Bing Maps to allow users to quickly identify signs by location and quickly lock in a connection to the sign.
Once connected, users can download data from the signs, and modify and update the sign message. The application was also designed to be extremely easy and intuitive to use so that no training or technical background is necessary. The application shows exact previews of each message as if you were looking at the sign so that users can be sure that the messages are accurately displayed, which can be especially important for scrolling messages, or emergency announcements (such as traffic accidents, or special events).
The sophistication of the traffic signs added to the complexity of the project, as the application needed to be compatible with a large number of signs with different features, as well as be expandable to work with future products as they are released.
A very unique and innovative feature of the application is that it also works through a "direct connection" mode, which enables users to connect a device directly to their computer or laptop, rather than depending on an Internet connection. Many of the signs are also Bluetooth compatible and can be connected wirelessly which allows an officer to connect to a display while sitting nearby in a patrol car.
The Silverlight application integrates with database information, which allows users to monitor and track information over time, such as monitoring average speeds in an area, or measuring rates of traffic.
Marketing Website
After beginning the Silverlight project, All Traffic Solutions asked Amadeus Consulting to assist with building a new marketing site for the company that could better highlight the company's unique strengths and industry leading products. All Traffic Solutions felt that its previous site was to some extent dated, too difficult to update properly, and did not communicate the message and image the company wished to convey.
A large portion of All Traffic Solutions' sales were driven through the website; however the company wished to increase its overall web presence and compete against other online distributors. The site also needed to improve the usability to make it very clear and user-friendly, which would also help drive sales.
Amadeus Consulting built a new website for All Traffic Solutions that allowed for the implementation of newer technologies and vastly improved usability. All Traffic Solutions and Amadeus worked with an ad agency to design the visuals, architect the navigation and supply the content for the new site. Amadeus Consulting programmed the new site and emphasized back-end usability allowing All Traffic Solutions to easily update and modify the content on the site, as well as monitor the analytics of the site which will inform future changes and modifications that can further improve sales make it easier for potential customers to contact All Traffic Solutions.
The new website, focuses on clarity and simplicity, which helps users quickly find the types of products and services they need. Users can navigate the site through traditional header menus, or through large visuals which show each product type. This method allows users to quickly identify specific products, and find out specific information about them, rather than being bombarded by messages and information.
All Traffic Solutions to easily update and modify the content on the site, as well as monitor the analytics of the site which will inform future changes and modifications that can further improve sales and usability.
Search Visibility
In conjunction with the new site, All Traffic Solutions also sought to increase their visibility and rankings on popular search engines. In the case of many full site redesigns, search engine rankings can also suffer a large drop, and All Traffic Solutions wished to mitigate the impact as much as possible, and to include important search visibility elements into the new site which would help it be more "findable" by users that were searching for any other product types or services that All Traffic Solutions offers.
This project included understanding how the company's rankings and visibility would be affected by a website redesign, as well as understanding how they could improve visibility in the future, both to maintain their previous standings after the redesign, and to greatly increase their visibility once the new site was launched. This required that Amadeus Consulting study All Traffic Solutions' online marketplace and devise a strategy to help the company better reach its potential pool of customers through paid and organic search, and identify conversion optimization strategies.
In addition to redesigning the website, Amadeus Consulting is using its search visibility team to refine All Traffic Solutions' search visibility strategies.
On working with Amadeus Consulting, Scott Johnson, Vice President of All Traffic Solutions said, "We chose Amadeus Consulting because of their expertise and experience in specific technologies, including Microsoft Silverlight . Throughout our first project we realized that Amadeus' expertise was even broader than we thought and their experience more varied. As a result, we have continued to use them and are glad to have Amadeus as a technology partner."
