The extremely talented Golden Globe Award nominated actor Amanda Plummer has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Hunger Games sequel "Catching Fire". Plummer will play the role of Wiress, an older tribute from District 3 who is said to be "exceptionally smart" and adept at working with electronics. In addition to her 1993 Golden Globe Award nomination for the NBC movie "Miss Rose White", Plummer has won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Sister Agnes in the play "Agnes of God", and has won three Primetime Emmy Awards. Numerous roles are still up for grabs in "Catching Fire".It was recently announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee and Jena Malone has been cast as Johanna in "The Hunger Games" sequel with new director Francis Lawrence. Lionsgate is rushing that film to shoot this fall for a November 22, 2013 release due to Jennifer Lawrence's contractual commitments to her next film (Untitled X-Men Sequel) starting in January, 2013.
In related news, the new Co-Chairmans of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, producers Nina Jacobson and author Suzanne Collins are currently canvassing the right directors for the last two Hunger Games films, which are racing towards production. The last two films will be based on Susanne Collins novel Mockingjay, which is being split into two movies.
