Barclays is introducing a free mobile banking app allowing its customers to have simple access and a way of managing their accounts whilst on the move. The Barclays Mobile Banking app is free to download and use. Barclays personal and small business customers will be able to view their balances and last 30 transactions, make transfers between accounts, pay bills* and find branches or Barclays ATMs. In addition, Barclaycard UK personal customers who also hold their bank account with Barclays will be able to view their credit card balance and recent transactions and make a repayment off their last statement balance.
Sean Gilchrist, Managing Director Barclays Digital said: "We know apps are proving really popular following the recent launch of Barclays Pingit, a simple way to send and receive money with just a mobile number, which has been downloaded over 900,000 times in its first four months. This launch is the next step in moving forward our already successful mobile banking service which has been used by over 0.5m customers to manage their accounts on the move. The simplicity of our new app is great news and makes the banking experience even easier and quicker for our customers."
The Barclays Mobile Banking app is initially available to those aged sixteen and over on Apple and Android phones, with plans to release on Blackberry very soon. The app can be downloaded today from Apple App Store and Google Play. Customers who don't wish to download the app can continue to use our mobile web application www.barclays.mobi on their handsets which was launched three years ago.
Customers register their phone and account details securely via the app using the PINsentry device and the app is protected by a five-digit passcode set by the user which they simply key in each time they access mobile banking.
A video is available on www.barclays.co.uk/mobilebankingapp which demonstrates the service.
This builds on several key innovations already this year including:
Barclays Pingit our mobile application which enables customers to send mobile payments to individuals or businesses by using a mobile number.
Barclaycard Paytag is a third of the size of a normal credit card which can be stuck to the back of any mobile phone. It can be used to make payments of GBP20 and under by simply being held over a contactless payment terminal.
Barclaycard PayBand, a contactless wristband designed for Barclaycard Wireless Festival 2012 so people don't have to carry cash.
