BROOKLYN, NY, July 26, 2012 (Press-News.org) Bobbi & the Strays has been named the August 2012 beneficiary for Rescue Chocolate, the chocolate company which donates 100% of its profits to various animal rescue organizations.
Founded in 1995 by a single individual who witnessed a horrific hit-and-run incident involving a dog, Bobbi & the Strays has now grown to a fully staffed non-profit and no-kill animal rescue organization. The group runs an adoption center in Queens and a shelter on Long Island. It provides essential care for orphaned, stray, abused and special needs cats and dogs.
Additionally, the group generates awareness about the prevention of animal abuse and neglect, and it educates the public on the importance of spay/neuter programs in order to combat the dog and cat overpopulation crisis.
Rescue Chocolate founder, Sarah Gross, said the group is doing vital work which she is happy to support. "The animals can't speak for themselves, but their needs are so great," Gross said. "A group like Bobbi & the Strays gives them a voice, and dignity, and a chance to live out their lives in loving homes."
Her company offers a product line of kosher and vegan chocolate bars and truffles. Each flavor is named after an issue important in the animal rescue world. For example, there are bars called Peanut Butter Pit Bull, Pick Me! Pepper, Foster-iffic Peppermint, The Fix, and Mission Feral Fig.
Gross cautions that while sales ultimately benefit the animals, her chocolate products are only for human consumption.
The chocolate company was started in January 2010. Products are sold in retail outlets around the country as well as online.
A new Rescue Chocolate product, introduced for sales during the warm-weather months, is called Beyond Bars. The bars come in a six-pack and are designed to appeal to the granola bar-crunching crowd.
