In a neighborhood famous for its many clothing-optional gay hotels, Pura Vida stands out as a luxury NON-clothing-optional gay resort for the discriminating traveler.

Since opening in July 2011, the unique approach has been working. In April, San Francisco Bay Area Reporter Travel Columnist Ed Walsh called Pura Vida "one of the most upscale and modern gay resorts in the world." Rave reviews on social media sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp have helped make Pura Vida the place to go for those in the know.

While vacationing in Palm Springs in 2010, Reid was looking for a second home, but instead, found the resort for sale. "My background in hotel management at Whistler-Blackcomb helped me see the gap in the market for an upscale experience totally unique in Palm Springs," says Reid. The project to create a luxury hotel began with a total remodel including extensive use of travertine, custom wood work, 2-man showers and many other amenities typically found in only the finest resorts.

The hotel space has open common areas including an outdoor kitchen and BBQ that allows for group events. As part of the complimentary cocktail hour, Pura Vida guests can enjoy premium wines, spirits and beverages as part of their stay. With eight rooms, a group of friends can rent out the entire resort to have the intimacy of a private home and the luxury feel of a full service hotel. The venue may also be rented for special events and corporate functions.
