"All Quiet on the Western Front" Producers to Document Film's Journey

"Journey to The Front" to be shot by Stokell/Paterson.

2010-10-05
LOS ANGELES, CA, October 05, 2010 (Press-News.org) Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson, the writing-producing partnership behind the all new "All Quiet on the Western Front," which has Daniel Radcliffe attached to play the lead, are documenting the entire process in getting the feature film made. The film is called "Journey to The Front." The duo, who will shoot and edit the documentary themselves, maintain that it will include every stage of the development, production, and post-production process, as well as the theatrical opening night.

Said Paterson, "This is not simply a cooker-cutter documentary about the making of 'All Quiet on the Western Front', showing only the good PR bits. This is a no-holds-barred account of our very personal and difficult journey putting the whole feature film together."

Added Stokell, "We shall show all the areas that are usually behind closed doors and off-limits, from obtaining funding through production problems, to the long hours in the editing studio and the organized chaos of putting on an opening night. It will be an education for the audience; a front row seat seen through the cameras that Les and I will carry."

As a counter-point, the documentary will also show the duo's day-to-day collaboration as writers and producers, how they cope with the continual knockbacks and stresses in putting such a project together, as well as their lives away from the celluloid world. Stokell and Paterson not only share a love of films and the creative process, but also competitive triathlons, endurance races and adventures.

For the duo, a common denominator in both filmmaking and triathlon training is the need for a relentless pursuit of, sometimes seemingly unattainable, goals.

Lesley Paterson is one of the top female professional triathletes in the world, having been involved in the sport as an international competitor for 15 years. She shook up the triathlon world by securing second place in the 2009 off-road Xterra World Championships in Hawaii last October to be followed by second place in the ultra competitive California 2010 Ironman 70.3 race in Oceanside in March. She also has a Masters degree in Theater Arts.

But reality though, even in Hollywood, can be stranger than fiction. For example, early development costs for the new "All Quiet on the Western Front" were supported by Paterson's professional triathlon winnings, including her purse from the 2009 Xterra World Championships.

Ian Stokell has been a writer, journalist and editor for a quarter century. He was a managing editor with The Washington Post's Newsbytes daily technology and business newswire for 10 years and has had thousands of articles published in a variety of publications. He also has a Masters degree in Physical Education and US National soccer coaching certifications.

"All Quiet on the Western Front" currently has Daniel Radcliffe and Bernard Hill attached and is provisionally set to begin shooting in the spring of 2012, after Radcliffe finishes his year-long commitment to Broadway throughout 2011.

The title of the documentary reflects both the duo's ongoing struggle to get the feature film "All Quiet on the Western Front" made and in theaters, and their struggle to break free from the pack in both their triathlon racing and in their lives.

"Journey to The Front" will be released into theaters one month after the theatrical release of "All Quiet on the Western Front."

One-minute updates will be posted on YouTube and the film's dedicated Web site as the journey progresses.

U.S. DOT Regulation of Fluorescent Lamp Transportation: Part 1

2010-10-05
Federal transportation requirements promulgated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) provide packaging standards for fluorescent lamps (referred to in the regulations as "mercury vapor tubes"). Those regulations require that shipments of lamps be contained in packaging that prevents the escape of mercury. In practice, however, those DOT packaging requirements will rarely, if ever, apply to packages of used mercury-containing lamps. Based on the rules and the mercury content of used lamps, the DOT standards only apply to packages containing more than 250 typical ...

Report: Many Stolen, Unrecovered Autos Lacked Insurance

2010-10-05
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) recently released its yearly report detailing the types of vehicles that were most frequently stolen in the past year, noting that a large percentage of those yet to be recovered are not protected by a car insurance policy. Nearly 100,000 vehicles were listed as stolen and not yet recovered as of August 2010, according to the NICB, and 62 percent of those lacked any type of coverage. And the reason for this may be the age of the types of cars that thieves take most often. Drivers who have taken out a loan to purchase a new ...
