Aquabarrel Awarded Contract to Produce 3000 Rain Barrels

Aquabarrel is set to manufacture thousands of rain barrels for the upcoming fiscal year.

2012-08-08
GAITHERSBURG, MD, August 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Aquabarrel LLC recently signed a contract with the Energy Coordinating Agency (ECA) to deliver three thousand rain barrel parts kits suitable for three- and four-inch round downspout pipes. As part of the ECA's Rain Barrel Program, the rain barrel parts kits will be installed throughout Philadelphia for fiscal year 2013.

The Rain Barrel Program constitutes a portion of Philadelphia's ongoing Green City Clean Waters stormwater control plan. According to program manager Aaron Slater, "The goal of this plan is to reduce the amount of storm water that flows into our sewer system, and in effect, reduce the overflows and outfalls of contaminated water into our rivers and streams." Aquabarrel was awarded the contract primarily for "the high quality and ease of installation" of its products.

The ECA aims to promote a sustainable and socially equitable energy future for those living in the Philadelphia region. The organization lobbies for energy efficiency legislation, and specializes in market transformation as well as green jobs training programs.

Aquabarrel is a microbusiness whose mission is to promote water conservation through the use of rain barrels. Today, Aquabarrel offers an array of rain barrel products and accessories directly to consumers, including above ground cisterns, downspout diverters and filters, and the rain barrel itself. Additionally, Aquabarrel is always interested in partnering with municipalities and organizations in order to foster better water management at large.
