CHESTERTOWN, MD, August 15, 2012 (Press-News.org) Remember couture? Classic clothing so stylish, so elegant you can't get it out of your mind? The Bob Mackie beaded evening dress that turned heads at the club's New Year's ball? The Adolpho red knit suit Nancy Reagan wore at Inauguration? The handsome tailored men's suit that made him feel like a master of the universe? The enormous nineteenth century French hatbox redolent of grace and gracious living with its original label? The HomePorts Collection now has these show-stopping items and many more on exhibit and also available for purchase. These stars are taking a bow!
The HomePort's Collection includes fine vintage ensembles such as evening wear by Oscar de la Renta and Victor Costa, jeweled ladies lunch suits by Karl Lagerfeld and Christian Dior, a USA made 1988 original POLO men's leather jacket by Ralph Lauren, an authentic beaded flapper cocktail dress worn during the roaring 20s, a divine 1950s crocodile handbag. There are exquisite shoes, sumptuous jewelry, sassy leather driving gloves, luxurious lingerie sets, (think Mad Men) being offered. The HomePorts Collection has items from the 1920's through 1990. Every item has a story of who wore it and preserved it to be handed to another generation. Make the world your own stage as you don one of these stars!
"The idea is to bring the generations together," says Karen Wright, Executive Director of HomePorts, Inc. "This is a way for older generations to show off beautiful vintage clothing to younger generations...to be multi-generational."
Georgina Bliss and her husband Rick Marshall are curating The HomePorts Collection exhibit. With over half a century of experience
in the apparel industry between them, they are well suited to the task.
"I've had great reception to this unique project" says Georgina. "This incredible collection pays homage to graceful living and to the people who wore these beautiful clothes. In this disposable world, you simply don't see clothing of this quality anymore."
The stars of this show are taking a bow from October 19th - 28th.
Events will include:
*Patrons' Cocktail Party on October 19th.
*Ladies' Tea on October 20th.
*Silent Auction
*Buy It Now
*Cash & Carry
*School Children's Drawing Contest
The HomePorts Collection Vintage Trunk Show & Sale is the first of three. Look for the Vintage Wedding Dresses Collection in 2013, and the Vintage Children's Clothes Collection in 2014.
