Dominion Acquisitions Ltd: Are Today's Leaders Marionettes in The Marketplace?
2012-08-22
LONDON, ENGLAND, August 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) According to an article by Thomas J. Saporito, published at Harvard Business Review (HBR), the success criteria for today's leaders are shifting. That means that there is no longer the time to develop the leadership skills for long-term success. Adina Stoleru at Dominion Acquisitions Ltd, says: "Today's leaders must be very competitive and are expected to achieve success within a small amount of time." While years back, a director was able to see a company grow through its various life cycles; Adina Stoleru at Dominion Acquisitions Ltd is concerned that in today's marketplace there is no longer time to develop the relevant leadership skills for long-term success. According to HBR, this may impact organisations in particular ways.

'Renovators' are replacing 'builders': Since leadership is becoming more and more situational, fewer company directors have the time to build a company from the ground up and seeing it through its various life cycles. Adina Stoleru at Dominion Acquisitions Ltd is concerned about these findings. "It is a great value for a company if the CEO knows the organisation from the beginning and sees it develop and progress. 'Builders' who are hired to achieve success within a short period of time, won't have those valuable skills and may not know how to step in or correct an error in order to continue the company growth", says Adina Stoleru at Dominion Acquisitions Ltd. According to Saporito's article at HBR, nowadays turnaround artists are lauded, while the concept of a 'renovator' CEO becomes less of a reality.

Success is driven by leaders who understand the future needs of an organisation and its current operations, both from a strategic and a cultural perspective. As companies lose sight of this, performance suffers and the CEO turnover starts increasing (HBR). Adina Stoleru at Dominion Acquisitions Ltd says: "A director who has built an organisation from the beginning, know its vision, values, strategy and culture." According to Saporito's article at HBR, external hires of CEOs have increased by more than eight percent since the 1970s. "This seems to be the new trend", continues Adina Stoleru at Dominion Acquisitions Ltd.

Today's CEOs are facing different challenges than CEOs 40 years ago. Expectations for success have changed in the current, fast moving marketplace. Adina Stoleru at Dominion Acquisitions Ltd says: "In order to keep up with the competition, companies are more likely to hire 'builders' for a 'quick fix' or moment of success rather than thinking of long-term goals and achievement." Adina Stoleru continues: "It seems like those 'builders' are marionettes in our current marketplace, selected to accomplish a task and deal with that one situation until they are replaced by another marionette." Expectations of success may keep changing in the following years and organisations will adapt to it. Then we will see if the current model proves successful or if 'renovators' may regain value.
