Teens Power Community Center's New Site

The youth of Plymouth Community Renewal Center are telling a new story of their Louisville neighborhood with the center's new website designed by Signal Hill.

2012-08-24
CARY, NC, August 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) The youth of Plymouth Community Renewal Center are telling a new story of their Louisville neighborhood with the center's new website designed by Signal Hill.

The recently launched site, a first for the organization, is fueled by stories created by Plymouth's Digital Storytelling Group, a team of youth 13 to 16 years old.

On July 31, Signal Hill traveled to Louisville to conduct a two-day training session on journalism, photojournalism and social media basics.

"Things really got interesting when we went outside and walked the streets of the Russell community," says Signal Hill Account Coordinator Amanda Romano. "During this time, some of the digital storytellers chose to document their stories accompanied by photographs while others explored the use of video interviews."

Group member Deara Daniels, 13, says she feels honored to be included in the project. "I felt important," she says.

As the group returned to the classroom, Signal Hill team members showed them how to make their stories live on the new site and promote the stories through social media and the center's new electronic newsletter.

In addition to providing community news, the website offers information on the center's extensive programming, upcoming events and opportunities for involvement.

Signal Hill is a leadership and communications consultancy that outfits organizations for adventures in story. Founded in 1999, Signal Hill uses narrative-based practices to help leaders draw upon the power of their stories and multimedia approaches to get the stories out.
