2012 will mark the 3rd year that Dominion Acquisitions Ltd have supported the Notting Hill Carnival which is currently recognised as the biggest street celebration in Europe and the second largest carnival in the world after Rio de Janeiro. Dominion Acquisitions Ltd realise the importance of carnival and the annual pulling power the celebrations have in bringing people from different backgrounds, ethnic origins, religions and all walks of life together for two days of festivities that ultimately represent happiness, elation and freedom.

The festival can be traced back the early days of abolition in Trinidad where carnival and the steel band originated after the enslaved people were emancipated and were able to celebrate their freedom. Carnival is a firm tradition within the West-Indian communities and the Empire Windrush generation bought these customs to Britain with them in the late 1950's.

The Notting Hill Carnival was started in 1964 as a way for the black community to celebrate their own cultures and traditions and rejoice despite the race relations between the Afro-Caribbean's and native British citizens at the time.

The UK's first widespread racial attacks, the Notting Hill race riots had blighted the local community in 1959 and Claudia Jones who is now known as the 'mother of Notting Hill Carnival' started to hold dances in the ST Pancreas town hall, King Cross. She provided a safe place where west-Indians (notably Trinidadians), could come and enjoy the music, forget their troubles and express themselves.

Dominion Acquisitions Ltd reveal the Notting Hill Carnival fully developed a few years later as a way to overthrow the negativity and notorious stigma the race riots had consequently left behind.

Taking place on the August Bank Holiday weekend and attended by over 1 million revellers, Carnival is the most colourful and vibrant celebration London has to offer. Each year it is continually expanding with the inclusion of more cultures, more cuisines, more music and more solidarity.

The carnival is a unique event that is ever evolving and adapting to cater for a progressive community and a constantly changing generation who have the privilege of continuing an important legacy left as a gift to the people of London and with more local business's such as Dominion Acquisitions Ltd supporting the event it can only get better.
