PAYSON, AZ, September 06, 2012 (Press-News.org) Desert Dentistry in Payson, AZ provides high-quality dental implants for people who are missing teeth or desire greater stability for their dental appliances. Dental implants give patients the ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence.
Who Can Use Dental Implants?
Dental implants are, for many patients, the ideal treatment method for replacing missing teeth. They can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth, and are an excellent alternative to wearing dentures, which many patients find to be cumbersome and inconvenient. In addition, dental implants can be used to provide stability for appliances such as partial dentures.
Before placing a dental implant, the dentists at Desert Dentistry conduct a thorough examination to ensure that the patient's oral health is adequate and an implant will be beneficial. During this consultation, the patient also receives information about the procedure and has the opportunity to ask any questions.
The Dental Implant Procedure
Patients should be aware that the dental implant procedure is one that is quite invasive and lengthy yet very rewarding in the end. The dental implant itself is a replacement for a missing tooth root, and the crown placed on top is a replacement for the missing tooth. The procedure takes place over a span of several appointments and months.
During the first appointment, the implant, a titanium post, is inserted into the jawbone. Patients can use sedation, medication taken orally or administered through an IV, to feel more comfortable during this oral surgery. After the implant has been placed, several weeks must pass so that the implant can completely fuse with the jawbone, creating a permanent fixture.
Once the implant is stable, the patient comes back to the dentist to have an abutment placed within each implant. During this appointment, the dentist also takes impressions of the patient's mouth so that the crowns can be created in a lab. These crowns will be natural-looking and highly functional. In the meantime, the patient will be given healing caps to wear over the implants.
Once the crowns have been created, the patient comes back to the office for a final appointment. The crowns are cemented onto the abutments, and the process is complete. At this point, the implants will function just like natural teeth.
Are Dental Implants the Right Choice for You?
If missing teeth damage your self esteem or make it difficult to chew thoroughly and speak clearly, it's time to do something about it. Dental implants are the ideal treatment option for patients who are missing a tooth or multiple teeth but do not want to resort to using dentures. The team at Desert Dentistry provides patients in Payson, AZ with high-quality, functional dental implants that can last a lifetime.
