2012-09-08
NEW YORK, NY, September 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), the leading U.S. non-profit organization supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders, is competing with charities nationwide for grants ranging from $10,000 to $250,000 from the Chase Community Giving program. The public can help ensure their success by simply voting for NEDA through the Chase Community Giving program online or on Facebook.

Through the utilization of social media networks, the Chase Community Giving program has already directed more than $20 million dollars toward charities nationwide, putting the power to bring positive change across the nation into the hands of those who need it most. Due to enthusiasm, the program is being continued this year, giving hundreds of additional charities, including NEDA, the opportunity to win grants to further their mission.

Commented Lynn Grefe, CEO & president of NEDA, "Everyone knows someone with an eating disorder. That is why we are honored to be nominated for this grant from Chase and promise every voter for NEDA that the funds would be put to great use. Our programs are geared toward supporting individuals and families in their challenges and to expanding education and early intervention. Millions of people around the country are counting on us and additional funding would go a long way in helping us reach that many more people."

The Fall 2012 round of the Chase Community Giving program is designed to benefit smaller and local charities by being limited to 501(c)3 charities with operating budgets under $10 million. The top eligible charity receives $250,000 and the remaining 195 top charities earn $10,000 through $100,000 awards, for a total of $5 million dollars in grants.

With the support of volunteers and supporters, NEDA has the opportunity to receive much needed resources to grow their programs.

Testimonials

"To me," says Vic Avon, who recovered from anorexia and is a passionate NEDA supporter, "NEDA means shattering stereotypes, educating the public and saving lives, but most importantly, NEDA means hope. NEDA gave me the hope to fight for my life and showed me that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. NEDA helped to save my life."

"Seeing my daughter struggling every day broke my heart and I didn't know where to turn. Thankfully, I discovered the NEDA Helpline, where I found the help and support my daughter and our family needed to get on the path to healing." - A Dad

"I would not trade my NEDA conference experiences for anything at all and I can honestly say, as a two-time attendee, NEDA has played an essential part in my recovery." - Individual in recovery, referring to NEDA's annual conference, which brings together professionals and families

"Being a parent of a daughter who is working on recovery, it helps to be with others who 'get it' and make connections on a personal level. The wealth of information I was able to get from the NEDA conference cannot be measured." - A Mom
