RALEIGH, NC, September 13, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter 105 of the Institute of Real Estate Management's (IREM) September meeting will feature Coach Billy Lee of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Women's Basketball Team. Coach Lee will present "Motivation: It Is All About The Heart" at noon on Wednesday, September 19th at the Capital City Club located in the Progress Energy Building, 21st Floor, 410 S. Wilmington Street in Raleigh.
Coach Lee is in his third year as the director of video services and scouting for women's basketball. A well-respected coach with a long history in the state of North Carolina, Coach Lee has over three decades of coaching experience.
A 1969 graduate of Mount Olive College, Coach Lee was an assistant coach at East Carolina for two seasons before taking the head job at Pembroke State (now UNC Pembroke) in 1978. During his time in Lumberton, he won three conference titles, advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, and posted back-to-back 20-win seasons.
In 1985, Coach Lee took over as the head men's coach at Campbell, where he led the Camels for 18 seasons. A five-time conference coach of the year, he guided Campbell to the 1992 Big South Conference title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament, where his team faced eventual national champion Duke. In addition to winning over 400 games in his career, Coach Lee was the director of the Campbell University Basketball School, considered to be the largest and oldest of its kind in the United States. After leaving Campbell in 2003, he spent three seasons at St. Andrews before retiring from the coaching ranks to work as a basketball consultant and television analyst.
In addition to his work on the sidelines, Coach Lee has authored two books on basketball strategy and has also been part of a number of organizations including the USA Basketball committee, the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Amateur Sports Association, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Board of Advisors for the NC High School Athletic Association and the National Speakers Association. In 2009, Coach Lee was inducted into the Mount Olive College Athletics Hall of Fame.
When asked about the opportunity to speak with IREM and members of the real estate community, Coach Lee said, "I am looking forward to being with this group. They are very sports savvy and ACC oriented. It should be a great gathering!"
Current IREM president, Gary Triplett, CPM , says that representatives from local colleges and sports programs are always well received by his membership. Past speakers have included Dr. Dianne Suber, President of Saint Augustine's College and Rick Steinbacher, UNC-CH Associate Athletic Director.
"We're extremely grateful to Coach Lee for sharing his experiences and time with our membership," says Triplett. "Given his expansive sports career, I'm sure he has quite a few relevant stories to share on perseverance and determination, which is quite relevant given the continued uncertainty of the [real estate] market and economy."
Prepaid CPM , ARM , and CPM Candidate members are welcome to attend this event free of charge. Guests, Associate Members, and Student Members are cordially invited to attend this event at a $45.00 fee, payable in advance. Checks should be made payable to IREM Chapter 105, 4824 Wyatt Brook Way, Raleigh, NC 27609.
