RALEIGH, NC, October 07, 2010 (Press-News.org) The Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine (www.carolinacenter.com), the Triangle's leading provider of integrative medical treatments and therapies, is pleased to announce that Mark N. Mead, MSc will be presenting "Nutrition and Other Sensible Strategies for Breast Cancer Prevention & Control" at 10:00am on Friday, October 8th at the Lincoln Community Health Center. Mead is a nutritional oncology specialist who currently serves as a nutrition educator for Raleigh-based Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine. He also serves as associate editor for Integrative Cancer Therapies (Sage Publications) and as a research associate for the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment. Mead is also a former contributing editor to Natural Health magazine and co-authored The Rapid Recovery Handbook, published by HarperCollins in 2006. In addition to providing research support for Dr. Block's recent book, he co-wrote the book Alternative Medicine Definitive Guide to Cancer with W. John Diamond, MD (Future Medicine Publishing). Mead says that his presentation will help change the way people currently think about cancer.

"The information I'll be presenting will discuss what makes cancer 'tick' at the biochemical level and the diverse ways by which our nutritional habits and other lifestyle factors can impact recovery from cancer treatment, as well as long-term cancer control and prevention," says Mead. "I look forward to sharing this and other new findings with our audience and anticipate a lively and informative discussion."

Mead's presentation will discuss key, research-based strategies for using nutrition, herbs, and other natural therapies for preventing breast cancer as well as for optimizing health and longevity after a breast cancer diagnosis. The presentation will focus mainly on nutritional-botanical strategies and innovative therapies for bolstering the body's cancer-fighting power and keeping cancer at bay over the long term. Mead will also share cutting-edge insights from co-authoring reports recently published in the International Journal of Cancer, Cancer Treatment Reviews, and Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

The Breast Health Workshop and Spa Day will be held from 8:30am - 1:30pm at 1201 Fayetteville Street in Durham. This event is free and open to the public and will feature presentations on breast health, mammograms, stress reduction, nutrition, and exercise.
