LOS ANGELES, CA, September 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) Dr. Stan Stahl president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA-LA), presented a check for $1,500 to the ISSA Education Foundation (ISSAEF) to support the E. Eugene Schultz, Jr. PhD Memorial Scholarship. Foundation Board Chair Sandra Lambert and Board member Dr. Dan Manson accepted the donation on behalf of the Foundation.

"I'm pleased on behalf of ISSA-LA to make this contribution to the ISSA Educational Foundation in memory of our good friend, Gene Schultz," said Dr. Stahl. "Gene taught us all so much before his premature passing. His generosity of spirit is an inspiration to all of us who work to secure the village."

"ISSA was founded in Los Angeles and so it is fitting that LA is the first Chapter to contribute to the ISSAEF's educational initiatives," Ms. Lambert stated. "Gene was an ongoing supporter of the LA Chapter, both in monthly meeting sessions as well as the annual one-day Summit as a Keynote Speaker. We are delighted with this donation in honor of his memory, and we hope that it will inspire individual members and the general public to contribute however much they can to the ISSAEF's efforts to bring forward future generations of dedicated infosec practitioners."

Dr. Eugene Schultz, PhD, was a security pioneer, educator, and long-time friend of ISSA. Dr. Schultz was a professor of computer science, retiring from the University of California at Berkeley, an instructor for SANS and ISACA, and editor-in-chief of 'Computers and Security.' Dr. Schultz was an ISSA Hall of Fame Recipient, the organization's highest award for service and excellence.

The contribution will offer scholarships to support graduate level studies by individuals pursuing the field of Information Security. The Foundation also provides undergraduate scholarships, and in the future will offer grants to professionals wishing to expand their knowledge and skills in the information security field.

The ISSA Education Foundation (www.issaef.com) was founded in 2003 by the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) as a 501 (c) (3) public charity. The Foundation is made up exclusively of volunteers from the ranks of information security professionals.
