SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, September 26, 2012 (Press-News.org) Advanced e-book and digital textbook developer iPortfolio (www.iportfolio.co.kr) announced that it would be aggressively targeting the global e-book market with its e-book platform called Spindle Books.
Developed by iPortfolio, Spindle Books keeps the original format of the printed version intact while adding multimedia features and interactive functionalities. The e-book platform recently made the news when World Book - a Scott Fetzer company owned by Berkshire Hathaway - chose Spindle Books as one of its future e-Book platforms.
The platform is designed as a multi-purpose e-Book platform accommodating books of highly demanding categories such as Education, Children, Life, and Travel. Spindle transforms the books into a multi-functional value added digital content that in some cases the e-Book version is priced higher than the print version.
The Spindle Books platform now has its proprietary versions, namely Spindle "Edu", "Travel", and "Kids" in addition to supporting standard formats such as ePub2 and ePub3. The "Spindle Books Kids" version provides a web based drag and drop, WYSIWYG authoring tool that can make sophisticated interactive children books in matter of hours. This new tool will be showcased at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2012 this October at the American Collective Stand within the USA Pavilion (Hall 8).
While the electronic textbook market in Korea has yet to come into its own, RHK (formerly Random House Korea) has adopted the Spindle platform for its best selling travel guide series to go digital. 100 Ways to Enjoy Seoul, Your Weekend Excursion Consultant, and Top 100 Ways to Enjoy Europe, these books are ranked at the top for over 20 consecutive weeks in the travel section of the Korean Apple App Store. The Spindle Travel version includes the patented GPS based book search function, as well as handy travel features such as on site weather forecast, real-time currency calculator, camera, social network sharing, sticky notes, and many more. Finding directions becomes a lot easier when a map pops up as soon as you see an address.
Early summer this year, World Book Inc., a Warren Buffet invested company, has chosen Spindle Books as one of its e-Book platform for educational reference books. The first round of offerings later this year will include popular series books such as Explore the Universe, Animal Lives, and Learning Ladders.
Established under the mission of "Transform Books, Reform Education" iPortfolio holds to the philosophy of applying technology into books to help expand people's intellectual ability and improve the quality of education.
Spindle Books, the number one choice for advanced ebooks in Korea, is going global with World Book Inc. as its first global client.

News of Kelsey Grammer's $50 million payout to his former wife Camille certainly grabbed headlines. Virginia Law and Nursing Home Abuse
2012-09-26
Making the decision to use a nursing home facility to provide care for a loved one is difficult. Even after taking the time to research and question professionals in an attempt to find the right facility, nursing home abuse or neglect can occur.
Although many facilities offer quality patient care, others are found in violation of many patient care standards and receive repeated citations from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a government agency that regulates nursing homes at a national level.
A recent New York Times investigation found that ...
The Benefits of Having EOBRs in Trucks
2012-09-26
The use of electronic on-board recording devices (EOBRs), also known as "black boxes" in commercial trucks has been a long-standing safety issue. Safety advocates believe that such devices will promote safety and deter drivers from violating hours-of-service (HOS) rules. However, the trucking industry maintains that they will simply be another way to harass drivers for benign rule violations and slow down operations in a very competitive industry.
Despite the controversy, commercial trucks will now be required to carry EOBRs to record a truck's course and its ...
