THOUSAND OAKS, CA, October 08, 2010 (Press-News.org) Xirrus , the only Wi-Fi Power Play in the industry, announced today the deployment of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays throughout Emmanuel College in Carrara, Gold Coast, Australia. This privately owned and operated preparatory through year 12 college recently upgraded their legacy wireless infrastructure to high performance Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays in order to support the increased user density and bandwidth as a result of their 1-to-1 laptop implementation.
Ted Garner, ICT Systems Manager at Emmanuel College, explains why high performance Wi-Fi was a necessity for them, "Our College is implementing a 1-to-1 laptop program for all senior school students over the next few years, which will require a reliable high density Wi-Fi. Our teaching staff has been successfully using wireless on their laptop computers for both curriculum and administration needs for a number of years. However, the system we had in place would not have been capable of supporting the large number of users and traffic that will be added to the system with the implementation of our 1-to-1 program or allow for expansion in the future."
Ted continued by describing the wireless requirements that led them to choose Xirrus, "It was important that the new Wi-Fi solution be able to handle high volumes of peak traffic, high density of users in all areas, be secure, allow flexibility for the future, and be easy to manage. It was evident in a very short period of time that Xirrus was the solution that would meet all our requirements. Initially users were totally unaware we had moved the laptops from our Wired LAN to Wireless. With the support of Xirrus the changeover from the old system was seamless and caused us no disruption. Xirrus support has been superb and the results better than expected - we are now enjoying high quality wireless throughout the College. I would have no hesitation in recommending a Xirrus Wi-Fi solution to anyone."

Protect Personal Data and the Environment When Getting Rid of Computers and other Home Electronics
2010-10-08
Improperly discarded computers are not only bad for the environment but also provide a way for hackers to recover your data, even when special software is used to "erase all data" from computer hard drives.
Old computers and printers tell tales. Data lives a long life and that can be a problem from a security standpoint. Information stored in an old computer can be easily read by anyone with a minimal understanding of how computers work. Erasing files and re-formatting a drive does not solve the problem. Deleted files can be restored and a re-formatted drive can be recovered. ...
