CHICAGO, IL, September 28, 2012 (Press-News.org) Two Chicagoans are producing a musical version of the cult-classic movie, Showgirls, this October at Chicago's Stage 773. Having raised funding for the project this summer on Kickstarter—a digital fundraising program for artists and dreamers—Showgirls the Musical more-than hit it's fundraising goal on July 29: essentially giving the "green light" to A Touch Too Much productions as they build their musical—the answer to every middle-aged gay man's prayers.
With rehearsals currently underway, an enthusiastic cast of 8 works day and night to bring the pieces of this production together. "When we dreamt this up, I had no idea how much I had bit off," says Griggs, Creative Director of Showgirls the Musical. "Thank god that our team is so disgustingly talented: they seriously amaze me every time we rehearse."
Griggs also took a moment to celebrate the popularity of the project: "even before we reached funding, we had people from all over the country—even a few from overseas—reaching out and wanting to be a part of this production." Curiosity and enthusiasm combined, it's paid off: after booking an initial two days of performances, Showgirls the Musical has just added a third night of performance to the cue.
Showgirls the Musical will debut at Chicago's Stage 773, on their cabaret stage Friday, October 12, at Midnight. "I'm not into blackbox and other types of theater where one really has to make use of their imagination. We're serving it to you on a gently used knock-off Cristal platter. We've got limited resources, but we use our space and technology really smart. The whole theater has become the show. Between projections, amazing vocal arrangements, amazing costumes, and a top-notch dance troop, I think people will be surprised just how much they are getting for a $20 ticket."
Tickets for Showgirls the Musical are currently on sale at http://www.stage773.com and http://www.showgirlsmusical.com for $20 and $25 dollars.
