North Carolina Homebuilder To Recognize Hero Home Recipient U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Richie Chavis During UNC's Military Appreciation Day

2012-09-29
RALEIGH, NC, September 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) Royal Oaks Building Group, LLC (http://www.royaloakshomes.com), an award-winning residential new homebuilder, has announced that it will recognize the recipient of the fourth Operation: Coming Home Hero Home after the first quarter of the UNC-Chapel Hill football game on Saturday, Sept. 29, as part of the university's Military Appreciation Day. For four consecutive years, Royal Oaks Building Group has served as the builder for the Operation: Coming Home program, which provides severely wounded combat veterans with custom-built homes free of charge. The recipient of the fourth home is U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Richie Chavis, who lost both legs in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion on Nov. 29, 2010, after only two months of serving in Afghanistan. A native of Lumberton, N.C., Chavis was a member of the 1/8 Weapons Company, 2 D Marine Division based out of Camp Lejeune.

Operation: Coming Home is a joint volunteer project by the Triangle Veterans Association, Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA), Royal Oaks Building Group, and various contractors who have joined together to donate new homes for disabled combat veterans who have served in the Middle East. Groundbreaking for this Hero Home took place on Aug. 16 in the Lexington Plantation community in Cameron, N.C. Completely customized and wheel-chair friendly, the new home will include a number of features designed to provide Lance Cpl. Chavis with easy access to all rooms.

Royal Oaks Building Group is sponsoring UNC's Military Appreciation Day, honoring this year's Operation: Coming Home recipient, Lance Cpl. Chavis. The new partnership with UNC, Duke and NC State athletics is part of Royal Oaks Building Group's ongoing commitment to supporting local universities and the Triangle community at large.

QUOTES:
"Royal Oaks Building Group is proud to be part of the Triangle community and to support its universities' programs as well as the valiant men and women who have served their country through the armed forces," said Rich Van Tassel, president of Royal Oaks Building Group. "We are honored to participate in UNC's Military Appreciation Day, and encourage everyone to join us in December, when we and others involved in Operation: Coming Home will hold a special ceremony to present Lance Cpl. Chavis and his family with the key to their new home."
