Breast Augmentation Without Implants

While largely considered safe, breast implants may complicate breastfeeding, interfere with mammograms, rupture, or suffer aesthetic imperfections requiring their removal and replacement.

2012-09-30
NEW YORK, NY, September 30, 2012 (Press-News.org) Breast implants are foreign devices placed in your body during breast augmentation surgery. While largely considered safe, breast implants may complicate breastfeeding, interfere with mammograms, rupture, or suffer aesthetic imperfections requiring their removal and replacement. They are also, as mentioned before, a foreign object, making them very unattractive to many women.

But can you have your breasts enlarged without the use of breast implants?

Alternatives to Breast Implants

Many alternatives to breast implants are temporary. For example, "falsies" can be placed in your bra to make your breasts look larger while you are clothed. Other "breast enhancement" products such as creams or medications may also provide a temporary solution, but be wary, many of these do not work at all.

Certain injectable fillers may prove to be useful in breast augmentation without implants, but there is currently no significant evidence to support their effectiveness. However, fat grafting is showing some great potential. With fat grafting, fat is harvested from an area of the body with an ample supply and injected into your breasts. This is, of course, not an option for skinner women, but may prove to be an acceptable alternative to breast implants for others.

In the end, nothing can offer the same results as breast implants. Despite minor concerns and complications, breast implants provide the most consistent, reliable, and appealing results available. There are a number of different types of breast implants, and your plastic surgeon will be able to discuss the benefits and drawbacks to each one. Make sure you are working with an experienced breast surgeon who will take your concerns into account and help you determine the method of breast augmentation best for your body.
