DUNCANVILLE, TX, October 01, 2012 (Press-News.org) When Imani Williams survived the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina by treading barefoot through debris in a deserted mall with water up to her neck, she never dreamed the rest of the world would hear her story. Now her voice will be heard and her story shared in the new National Geographic documentary Forecast Disaster: Deadly Floods. The episode airs on the National Geographic channel on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 8 pm and 10 pm, and Oct. 11 at 4 pm CST.
It was Wilkinson who helped Williams and National Geographic connect. "A producer for the National Geographic film contacted me last fall to enlist my help in contacting a Hurricane Katrina survivor willing to share their story for the documentary," says Wilkinson, whose God-inspired book UNTOLD is one of the few books that tells the true stories of Hurricane Katrina survivors from the devastated Lower 9th Ward, the community where she grew up. "The survivors in my book were unable to participate in the documentary, but Imani had shared her chilling story of survival with me just a few months earlier when we were both vendors at an event. The producers were captivated by her story." The company flew Wilkinson and Williams to Canada where the documentary was filmed and Wilkinson was present on the set during filming. Proceeds from Wilkinson's book UNTOLD will be donated to an organization bringing recovery to residents of the New Orleans Lower 9th Ward.

About "UNTOLD: The New Orleans 9th Ward You Never Knew"
"If you want to know the truth behind the faces and images you saw during Hurricane Katrina, you will want to read this book," says Lynette Norris Wilkinson, author of UNTOLD: The New Orleans 9th Ward You Never Knew. UNTOLD shares the riveting true stories of 16 Hurricane Katrina survivors from the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, the area that was so devastated and the community where Wilkinson grew up. Survivors in the book include men, women, and children—some who remained in their homes during the storm and one who survived the chaos of seeking refuge from Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans Superdome and has an encounter with Rock And Roll Legend Fats Domino. UNTOLD was named "Book of the Year" by the Sankofa Literary Society. The book is God-inspired and proceeds will be donated to an organization helping the residents of the New Orleans Lower 9th Ward recover.
