COCONUT CREEK, FL, October 02, 2012

On Sept. 24, Rachel Galvin's show Indie Streak won Web Radio Show of the Year at the 3rd annual Women in the Arts Miami event at Privet in Hallandale, FL. Winners were selected by the public voting online. On her show, which has been in existence since Jan. 1, 2012, Galvin interviews film industry professionals, including directors, screenwriters and even the occasional actor. Combining the interviewing skills she has used as a journalist with the background she has gained working in the film industry, Galvin has made a name for herself with Indie Streak.

Regarding the win, she said, "I am so honored to have received this award and grateful to Diana Laura, Ricardo Charles, Christina Curran, all the hosts, sponsors and everyone who made this event possible. Doing this radio show has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I love giving a voice to those in the film community."

Galvin began her acting career in theater in Colorado in 1996, moving into film and to Los Angeles in 1997 for three years. In Hollywood, CA, she worked for Universal Studios as a tram tour guide, was a film critic for Talent Magazine and worked for a talent management company called ESI Kidz. The experience she gained in the biz, led her to write a book in 2001 called "Basics of the Biz," which is available on Amazon.com. In the 184-page guide she talks about her struggles in the industry and also gives a detail reference for those who are interested in getting in the biz themselves. She covers headshots, resumes, acting classes, unions, marketing yourself and much more. Galvin has now lived in South Florida for over 12 years and has done even bigger acting roles in local independent films. In addition, she has written for over 30 local publications and has become a local online TV host as well.
