LAS VEGAS, NV, October 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) Dr. Shane Sykes of The Reno Dentist was recently honored to be named one of six finalists for the Crown Council's Young Dentist Of The Year Member's Choice Award. Fellow dentists give this national award to individuals who have graduated from dental school within the past 5 years and have taken responsibility to continue their professional education after dental school. Recipients must show clear vision and creativity in developing their practice and are also outstanding examples of personal integrity, professional excellence and balance in life.
Dr. Sykes was invited to choose one of his most deserving patients who was in need of a smile makeover but unable to afford the procedure. Dr. Sykes met with his patient, the other finalists and Dr. David Hornbrook, an expert and international educator on cosmetic dentistry, for a diagnostic conference. Under Dr. Hornbrook's instruction at his San Diego office, the selected dentists experienced the full spectrum of providing a smile makeover, from treatment planning, smile design and prep work to occlusion, cementation and dental materials.
During two weekend seminars, Dr. Sykes completed his training by observing Dr. Hornbrook's preparation and placement of the dental work for his patient. The patient received her brand new smile at no charge and stayed in San Diego courtesy of the Crown Council. Utah Valley Dental Lab provided the porcelain veneers for the procedure.
Receiving this honor was an overwhelmingly positive experience for both Dr. Sykes and his patient. "It was a very emotional and life changing event for everyone involved, " said Dr. Shane Sykes.
