alliantgroup Welcomes Second Top IRS Executive as Director of IRS Practice and Procedure

Walter Harris joins alliantgroup after long career with IRS

2012-10-07
HOUSTON, TX, October 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) alliantgroup is pleased to announce that Walter Harris, a former senior level executive at the IRS (New York), has joined alliantgroup as Director of IRS Practice and Procedure. Harris is the second high profile hire from the IRS for alliantgroup and he follows in the footsteps of former IRS Commissioner Mark Everson who is now Vice Chairman of alliantgroup. Harris comes to alliantgroup following his departure from the IRS in June after a distinguished 31 year career with the agency.

"I'm extremely excited to come on board with alliantgroup," Harris said. "It's an intriguing opportunity and I know it will give me a new perspective on the industry. I'm very happy to see what the future holds for me with the firm."

The enthusiasm for Harris joining alliantgroup is mutual. "I couldn't be more thrilled to have a senior level IRS executive of the caliber of Walter Harris join alliantgroup," said alliantgroup CEO Dhaval Jadav. "Walter's passion, intelligence, integrity, and encyclopedic knowledge of IRS practice and procedure will be a huge boon to alliantgroup and its partner CPA firms and clients."

Harris began his career with the IRS as a revenue agent in 1981 and held several key positions within the agency before ultimately being promoted to the level of senior level executive in 2002. As the LB&I Industry Director of Financial Services, Harris was one of only five senior level IRS executives of major industry groupings. In addition, Harris had oversight over New York and other regions in the Northeast. "Walter Harris' vast experience, ranging from IRS agent to top level senior executive, is a fantastic addition to alliantgroup's tax controversy practice," said alliantgroup COO Shane Frank.

Harris comes to alliantgroup after becoming acquainted with the firm through the IRS. "I knew about alliantgroup from my role at the agency, but became more familiar with the work they performed when I was a guest at a joint IRS-alliantgroup roundtable discussion in New York with Mark Everson, Dean Zerbe (National Managing Director), and Dhaval Jadav. I became more intrigued with their mission and goals at that event," Harris said.

Everson is one of the many members of the alliantgroup team who are happy to welcome Harris to the firm. He has known Harris since 2003 when Everson was first appointed as Commissioner of the IRS.

"I'm delighted to be working with Walter again," Everson said. "His intimate knowledge of tax administration and IRS practices and procedure will be invaluable to alliantgroup as it continues to build a first rate service for small and mid-size businesses."
