BURBANK, CA, October 10, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Editors' Lounge returned from summer hiatus recently kicking off their first event of the fall season with presentations from Avid and Tiffen Dfx. In attendance was a mixed audience of filmmakers, editors, producers, and other post-production related professionals who were all eager to learn about the latest tools available to save time and money when finishing their projects. Each month the Editors' Lounge hosts this free educational event at AlphaDogs Post Production in Burbank, CA. http://www.editorslounge.com
Avid Video Application Specialist Bob Russo demonstrated Media Composer 6.5 and the enhancements in the latest release of the industry-leading video editing tool. It was shown how the addition of advanced audio keyframing accelerates the automation process within and among audio tracks. Now with support for 64 audio voices, video editors are able to gain more power to work with multiple stem mixes and play them all back simultaneously saving valuable time when mixing audio.
Avid has also made it easier for facilities that handle a variety of input formats and delivery of multiple output formats. Editors can now master and archive projects more efficiently with Avid Media Authoring. This new component of Avid Media Access (AMA) offers support for AS-02, a standard developed by the Advanced Media Workflow Association that helps post-production facilities simplify efficient media management for versioning of programs and streamline delivery to a variety of platforms and devices.
Furthermore, Russo demonstrated greater flexibility with third-party hardware. Through Avid Open I/O editors can now activate and deactivate hardware to pass control back and forth between Media Composer and third-party applications such as Adobe After Effects or Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve. Russo comments "We are delighted to see such a great response and interest from the editing community to see what's new with the Avid Media Composer family of products. The Editors' Lounge provides a unique opportunity to network with scores of professional editors, learn more about how they use Avid solutions as well as gain added insight into what they'd like to see in the future which ultimately helps us develop the best products for our customers."
Tiffen, a leader in the photographic manufacturing industry for more than 70 years, along with its Dfx development partner, Digital Film Tools, recently released a tremendously useful tool for film and television editors that was also demonstrated throughout the evening. In addition to discussing the popular optical equivalent filters found in the Tiffen Dfx software, Tiffen Product Manager Jena Rappolt-Noyes demonstrated the filter suite's myriad of color and image correction tools, light modifiers, color gel libraries, along with other many useful features. Offering extreme versatility, Dfx plugs into most popular editing, compositing and photo hosts.
Many times once a project is in post-production editors are still determining which editing software to use for the most efficient workflow based on the specific requirements of the project they are finishing. Tiffen Dfx makes this process easier by offering multi-host licenses. The Dfx photo plug-in can be installed in Lightroom, Photoshop and Aperture as long as it is on one machine. The video plug-in works in Avid, After Effects, FCP 6, 7 and X, Motion and Premiere Pro on the same machine as well. Jena explains, "There is so much jam-packed into Dfx v3 software. Our clients have been extremely happy at how much their workflow has improved. References like Film Stocks, Rosco and Gamcolor gel libraries along with the digital versions of Tiffen's famous glass optical filters, make it fairly easy for the director and editor to communicate the desired look." She adds, "I really enjoyed the event and camaraderie. It was really cool to see the positive reaction to Dfx, especially when one raffle winner wanted to swap his prize for a Dfx software plug-in! "
The evening concluded with lucky raffle winners receiving a copies of Avid's 6.5 and Tiffen's Dfx software. The next Editors' Lounge will be held on Friday, October 25, 2012. For more information visit http://www.editorslounge.com/nextevent.html
