CASTLE ROCK, CO, October 10, 2012 (Press-News.org) Friends of Douglas County K-9 will be hosting their 2nd annual "Howling Good Time Gala" fundraiser. Celebrated Denver comedian and Great American Comedy Festival winner, Sam Adams, will emcee the event as to honor the career of this year's K-9 retiree, Borris, and remember the life and service of last year's retiree, Leon (2001- 2012). This event will be held at Cielo at Castle Pines beginning at 6 p.m.

"After a very successful event last year, we are excited to once again celebrate the life of such an amazing animal," said Dr. David Swieckowski, D.V.M., the Friends of Douglas County K-9 Chairman. "Our goal is to not only raise funds for the continued support of these animals and their caretakers, but to also inspire a movement to educate the public on the tremendous value of these heroic animals."

Borris, a Belgian Malinois born in Holland, was selected from over approximately one hundred other dogs at the Vohne Liche Kennels in Indiana in March of 2005. During his time on the force, Borris was trained to detect the odor of controlled substances and was trained in obedience, apprehension work, building searches, tracking and evidence searches and SWAT operations. Borris will spend his retirement with Deputy Gerritt Kaufman, who has been employed as a Deputy Sheriff with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office since April 2002.

Tables and individual tickets for the gala are available for immediate purchase. Tickets to the event include a cocktail hour, plated dinner, retirement ceremony to honor Borris, and a silent and live auction.

The live auction will feature items such as a football signed by Peyton Manning, a golf round for four people at the Sanctuary Golf Course, a helicopter ride over Denver, a Trek mountain bike, a beachfront condo stay in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, and a chef's tasting and a wine pairing at Uniscali
