ESSEX, ENGLAND, October 17, 2012 (Press-News.org) Britain's biggest pumpkin growers have admitted that many of their pumpkins will not be ready in time for Halloween due to the bad summer weather.
Europe's largest producer of the vegetable is David Bowman Pumpkins near Spalding, Lincolnshire and around 40 per cent of their crop is still green because of the cold weather.
Mr Bowman, whose farm usually produces two million pumpkins a year, said: "It is terrible, pumpkins don't like the wet and cold and that's what we've had all summer.
"The harvest is 10 days behind schedule and it looks like there will be a shortage of pumpkins for Halloween this year."
Most pumpkins sold in the UK are used for Jack-o'-lantern carving as part of Halloween celebrations in the lead up to October 31st.
All Fancy Dress, one of the UK's leading independent Halloween fancy dress retailers has advised Halloween party hosts to consider getting their pumpkins early to avoid sell outs and increased prices nearer Halloween. Although alternatives are available with re-usable plastic Jack-o'-lanterns also widely found for a low-cost, low maintenance option.
Mark Heaton, of allfancydress.com, said: "Due to the unfortunate British weather this summer, the shortage of pumpkins means there will be an increased clamour for successful crops in order to decorate living rooms across the country in the coming weeks.
"The best place to find your pumpkin for Halloween will be at farmers' markets and other independent outlets. Don't be afraid to get a green pumpkin, as long as you keep them sheltered from cold winds it should ripen in time for the end of the month."
Carving pumpkins at Halloween is a great family activity. Lanterns are made in all shapes and sizes to be used as window and table decorations for kids and house parties at Halloween. As a pumpkin is a quintessential element to any Halloween celebration, All Fancy Dress has devised a detailed guide on how to carve a pumpkin for its customers.
The Essex-based retailers also stock a variety of Halloween outfits and accessories, suitable for kids and adults.
All Fancy Dress is expanding its range of Halloween costumes and accessories in readiness for October 31st, as well as a great selection of useful guides on how to decorate your home for Halloween and dress up in selected scary Halloween themes.
www.allfancydress.com provides a host of useful Halloween delivery options for customers, including same day dispatch for all orders placed before 5.15pm. With seamless delivery and customer service, parents and guardians can purchase a frighteningly good Halloween outfit with confidence.
