Bonsai refers to the artistic techniques used to capture the natural beauty of trees, rather than a specific variety of tree. A full-grown tree and a bonsai can be grown from the same seed; the bonsai has simply been dwarfed and shaped through years of training. To develop authentic bonsai, you need to be well aware of the controlled conditions. The value of a particular bonsai typically depends on size, age, and training. Generally, more expensive bonsai trees are larger, older, and have had more detailed, elaborate training. These qualities combined create the illusion of a large tree in a natural setting.

Each and every variety of bonsai differs from each other. They need their own particular requirement for a better growth. This is why, it is said that bonsais are super demanding. Chinese Elm bonsai is a world class bonsai. This is likely because few of them are collected from the wild for bonsai. Most of them are either developed from nursery plants or grown from seed. A healthy Chinese Elm will push five or six leaf nodes in a quick flush of growth. When they do this, their extra leaves and branches should be cut off or pruned for two or three nodes. Large branch pruning should be done in the early spring. The scars made by pruning generally do not need to be covered. Likewise if you have a Ficus bonsai tree, you must consider soil and potting. It can be repotted during just about any part of the growing season, but they must be re-potted in warm weather. They have their own unique style. You should study photos of large ficus trees in the wild in order to become familiar with their growth habit.

So if you want to grow your bonsai beautifully, make sure you know all the growth requirements and follow them accordingly. Another important thing you should do is to water your bonsai tree in a scheduled basis according to its requirement. You should never allow it to get dry.
