BLACKWOOD, NJ, October 18, 2012 (Press-News.org) In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 4wholeness.com, a one-stop online resource for breast cancer patients, is featuring a variety of cancer-fighting recipes that will keep the body healthy and mouth happy.

Often times with cancer treatments comes food cravings, low appetite, dry mouth, gastrointestinal distress, among other side effects. 4wholeness.com is here to help, by offering recipes that are sure to nourish and comfort.

"4wholeness.com has an integrated recipe section where leading nutritionists and culinary cancer professionals provide recipes tailored to cancer patients, survivors, and those looking for nutrient rich and flavorful foods," says 4wholeness.com co-founder, Susan Hunter.

Patients can find delicious and easy recipes for foods such as celery boats with bean dip, carrot-ginger soup with cashew cream, black bean fiesta salad, and green tea ice cream.

Many doctors have advocated that a healthy, organic diet may play a key role in cancer prevention, when paired with exercise and smoking cessation.

Dr. Deanna Attai, who is a board-certified surgeon at Center of Breast Care, Inc. in southern California, recommends her patients practice healthy eating.

"There are a few specific factors that we know will increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer: a high fat diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Those factors also increase the risk of recurrence in a woman that's been treated for breast cancer," says Dr. Attai. "I am definitely a believer in a good, balanced diet, high in fruits and vegetables, all different colors on your plate, just like your mom told you."

Natural medicine expert, Dr. Peter Bongiorno, adds that foods can actually turn good genes on, and turn bad genes off. Citing a December 2011 British medical journal study, he says 40 to 45% of all cancers could be prevented by a healthy diet and lifestyle.

"Eating organic food, exercising, and not smoking could reduce almost half the cancers," he says. "That's a very powerful medicine, and I think we can use that information to really help patients realize that they can take control of their health, take control of their genes, and really start making changes to prevent cancers from coming back, and to prevent cancers from happening to begin with."
