WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, October 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) Ferguson Case Orr Paterson LLP attorneys John Orr and Leslie McAdam have been honored by the Ventura County Bar Association for their exemplary service to the community. Orr, an FCOP founding partner, received the 27th annual Ben E. Nordman Public Service Award, which recognizes outstanding community contributions by a Ventura County lawyer through charitable and public service activities. McAdam was awarded the James Loebl VCBA/VLSP Public Service Award, which acknowledges an attorney's passion for their community through pro bono services. The attorneys will receive the awards at a VCBA dinner event on Nov. 17 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza in Westlake Village.
"The Ben E. Nordman Award is our organization's most prestigious award. We are proud to give it to John in recognition of decades of community service to dozens of charitable entities and organizations," said Steve Henderson, M.A., CAE, executive director/chief executive officer, Ventura County Bar Association "The Volunteer Lawyers Service Program, Inc. advisory body and staff were impressed with Leslie's dedication to providing pro bono services that help rural Ventura County's underserved population receive needed legal assistance."
Orr's practice is devoted to estate planning, probate, trust administration and ranch and farm related real property issues. Over the years, he has supported a wide range of charitable and public causes through his volunteer efforts and financial donations. He served as the chair of the board of directors of the Ventura County Museum from 2008-2010, and most recently led the financing and construction of the first stage of the museum's revitalization. For several years, he was on the Ventura City Park Campaign steering committee, which raised funds for the groundbreaking and build-out of the Community Park and Aquatic Center. Additionally, he has been involved with Ventura High School's Creative Arts Foundation and girls basketball program, the American Foreign Student Panel, Pierpont Elementary School and The Thacher School in Ojai.
McAdam is a civil litigator with significant experience in labor and employment, business, real estate and probate litigation. She has particular experience in commercial unlawful detainers and alternative dispute resolution. She is being honored for her work with the Santa Clara Valley Legal Aid in Fillmore. Since 2009, she has provided pro bono services to help more than 100 rural and non-English speaking residents in the Santa Clara River Valley, and contributed more than 200 hours representing people with disabilities who were faced with foreclosure and eviction proceedings. Each week for the past few years, she has advised women, agricultural workers, elderly, disabled, and the working poor at clinics, and taken on multiple cases involving tenant issues, employee rights, small claims, consumer issues and farmworker issues.
