Wilmington DWI Defense Lawyer Ryan Stump Secures Reduced Sentence For DWI, Drug Charges
2012-10-24
WILMINGTON, NC, October 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) Criminal defense attorney Ryan Stump recently represented a client facing up to 47 months in prison on a combination of criminal charges, including driving while impaired (DWI), felony drug possession, misdemeanor drug possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Using his knowledge of the law and experience in drug and DWI cases, Stump helped his client avoid an almost four-year-prison sentence and, instead, spend 90 days at an inpatient drug treatment facility.

In North Carolina v. J.M., law enforcement claimed that it had observed our client striking a telephone pole while driving. Our client was subsequently stopped by the police and arrested for driving while impaired (DWI). After the arrest, a search of our client's vehicle by police uncovered marijuana, prescription drugs for which our client did not have a valid prescription and other drug paraphernalia.

Rather than face the North Carolina prison system, defense lawyer Ryan Stump was able to convince the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) that an inpatient drug treatment program would be a more effective rehabilitation and deterrence strategy for our client. The ADA agreed to reduce the felony drug possession charge to a misdemeanor and allow our client to serve his 90 day sentence in a drug treatment program rather than in prison.

Our client will also serve a two-year probation term and must complete 24 hours of community service. This is just one example of the successful DWI case results obtained by the lawyers of Roberts Law Group, PLLC.
